CEPT for Tom
Hey Gang,
Beloved is in a miserable blue funk between constant headaches, boredom, loneliness and depression.
He has not felt well enough to get out of the house. He has not felt well enough to work on his car (the weather has been of no help on this).
The dog likes me better. (hey, I get her out of the house at least once per week).
I do well taking care of the bills and the house. And getting him to doctor appointments. I keep my walls up and muddle on.
Himself was asleep when I got home. I fixed myself dinner. He wondered why I didn't fix him a burger too. (he was asleep). I gave him my breakfast earlier in the week when he got up when I was about to eat.
Beloved is dealing with hurt feelings as well as loneliness and depression. I don't deal well with what I can't fix. I am really good about blocking misery out. Otherwise I would loose my temper and say things I really shouldn't.
I am fine. I wallow in books. I get out to work and run errands. I call friends. They call me. We do things for each other. And I block the blue cooties so I don't catch them very often.
I just don't know what I can do for him anymore. He is on medication and gets counseling.

update
Sassy the Dog had her last beginning obedience class last night. She has a certificate, some treats and a little cap. We will continue working on what she has learned, of course. I am quite proud of her. Since July she has come from skittish and anxious to curious and friendly. She now loves sitting on laps and being petted.
Thank the Lord and Lady! Sassy and I were on our way home from class and my car got rear-ended! I was yielding to traffic and the young man behind me didn't notice. No damage to the car or myself or Sassy. It would have been a different story if I hadn't had Sassy in her seat restraint!!! She hates the restraint but it did its job. The tiny hound did not go flying into the dashboard! The driver of the other car was also undamaged and quite polite. Maybe he will be a bit more cautious in the future.

Weekend
I picked up Bemscribe in Nashville and headed to Outside Con. Beloved stayed home unwell. Missed him but I NEEDED to get away to the con.
I had a lovely time with the "family". I napped for 2 hours Saturday under my usual napping tree. The Molly Maguires performed Saturday night.
How many Fen does it take to get a car (not mine) out of a ditch? Many. One to lift the car and a dozen to make suggestions and comments! It was even daylight and the driver was sober! Wow!
Jan brought goat's milk soap and cheese in exchange for sharing a room at the hotel at Montgomery Bell State Park. Yippeee! Several of us are too feeble any more to camp out. Multiple rooms were rented.
A young family friend came to the house to puppy-sit and Beloved-sat as well. She shoveled on Beloved's den and set up shelves. By herself. And the puppy loves her. I am hoping she will get all her paperwork together from 2 colleges and finish a degree up at MTSU.
Bessie-the-Car is having mileage related issues. Friday the engine light came on. I had it checked at a small shop near Bemscribe. The engine idle throttle is acting up. It is not dangerous to drive so I have carried on, a trifle anxious though. I called my tire/brake shop and made an appointment with their preferred mechanic for Thursday.
I got myself home Sunday using the GPS for the first time. It is a marvelous toy for the locationally inept!

Dawg Daze
I finally quit whining to get a dog and got us a dog!
Sassafrass (Sassy) was listed on the regional history list. We met her Saturday and had the home inspection and took custody Sunday.
Sassy is allegedly a chihuahua but Beloved is calling her a miniature rotweiler. She has had a varied and not especially easy life in her six months. She is a trifle skittish but likes to play. She doesn't bark but converses in little yips.
She has an appointment for spaying and shots in a couple of weeks. She is puppy pad trained and we are working on doing business outside. She is not impressed with the great outdoors.
Sassy likes to ride in the car but wants to ride on me! Or under my feet. I foresee a harness and booster seat in her future....
She is doing a good job distracting Beloved. Beloved feels awful but has the energy to babble at her in baby talk.

assorted rubble
Both lawn mowers have been non-functional. I came home Saturday afternoon having been running errands, and the former owner of the house was there weed whacking! He helped change the dead battery in the riding mower and aired up the tires. And mowed the front yard!
The electric push mower was still under warranty and I took it back to Home Depot for repair. They simply gave me a new mower!
Did I mention I had been stressing out and asked the Powers-that-Be for assistance! Sometimes I get a fast answer!
I have been keeping up with doing my physical therapy for my back. I was not in pain Sunday even after lifting mowers and batteries. That kinda surprised me!
Beloved fell a week ago Saturday and was pretty bruised and scraped up. I took him to the doctor last Monday. X-rays. Nothing was broken. He is still very sore.
I talked to the contractor about getting rails put up by the front porch steps when he eventually comes to put in the tankless water heater.
A former SCA member is moving to Holland and was getting rid of garb and feastgear. I made her an offer and have a bunch of Italian Renaissance dresses now. And a corset! gah!
This person also has a friend who has a small-dog adoption shelter. I may get in touch with him once things settle down some financially.

rambles
I am approaching my 52nd birthday. Yippee! Year 51 had physical problems which physical therapy now has under control.
I went to WV last week for spoiling. I am still the center of the universe!!
The new sister-in-law actually took Friday afternoon off to spend time with me. Version 1.0 never spent time with Husband's Family. New s-i-l showed me the house she and little brother are buying. I met the dog, who is a lovely being.
I had dinner with friends, one of whom I had not seen in 25 years! Wheeeee!
Saturday I conned Dad into joining me in taking Stewart's hot dogs to the new house, which is still a work in progress. Elder brother (autistic) met us there. The dog was banished to the back yard. Elder Brother did not want dog to feel left out, so he howled and made faces at dog. Dog loves Elder Brother.
I have 2 new shirts and 7 new used books. A lovely trip.
Tonight or tomorrow Beloved and I need to work on replacing a tire on the riding mower. This is the second time it has gone flat... And the yard really needs attention. PTTTTH!

time passes
April 1 will be the 21st anniversary of our wedding. Yep, Beloved and I married on April Fool's Day. Hey, it was a Saturday and a minister was available! And it certainly is easy to remember!
Dad bribed us to semi-elope so Mom would not show up and throw things at Dad. She had some attitude problems as well as schizophrenia....
The minister had a lisp. We are in Howy Wedwock!
We had 3 receptions. We had to be kicked out of reception #2. Thanks Robert and Diana! It is still the best party I have ever attended!

adventure ?!?
Beloved was restless EARLY this morning. He found a missing cable. He found a package he wanted open. It was on of those theft-proof, owner-proof glued plastic ones never meant to be opened. The knife slipped. The package won! At 2 this morning we headed for the emergency room for stitches to his thumb and a tetnus shot.
The adventurous part was the road. Two a.m. We had a lovely layer of pebble ice under a light coating of snow. Of course we caught all the traffic lights. I crawled the car along at 20 mph and got to the emergency room safely.
A couple of hours later we headed back home with a bandaged thumb and prescriptions.
I left messages at work that I would be a bit late.
I filled the prescriptions, took them to Beloved and headed for work.
MTSU opened on a two-hour delay so if I work through lunch I won't have to take any leave. We have a bounty of Valentine leftovers, including cucumber sandwiches, so I will not miss lunch at all.
Beloved seems to be doing quite well. I saw him up and about when I dropped off his prescriptions. I feel like I have been run over. I will sleep well tonight!

ConCave
I just got an update on one of my favorite SF conventions. Concave is almost always the last weekend in February. It has moved once again, this time to Bowling Green, Ky, rather than in the middle of rural Kentucky.
The hotel is the one I worked at for 5 months nearly 21 years ago. No room lottery this year. Beloved got the news and reserved our room around 1:00 a.m.
I will miss the Horse Cave Hampton but owners have changed, etc. Heck, I still get nostalgic about Park Mammouth Resort!
In other news, I started physical therapy and hopefully the numbness in my feet and legs will be resolved. Beloved is his usual self.
We are expecting the usual January weather starting tomorrow. There are confirmed rumors of SNOW! Gasp! Panic! (see me roll my eyes). I am well stocked with books and there is adequate food in the house in case we really do get any frozen precipitation.

rambling
I am working Christmas Eve by choice. The university library is open, therefore Collection Management is open. All is quiet. Most folks have taken this week off.
I will do some book repair. I picked up donuts for us few remainder people. Most of the remainders are folks who don't have enough leave built up to take today off. I have plenty of leave. I simply have no reason or desire to not be at work.
I am thankful for a job I enjoy. I appreciate my few remaining family members who don't demand I travel through storms to spend a holiday with them. Telephones and e-mail are a blessing.
I still want a small dog. I am still working on Beloved about that.
I plan to try to shovel the house during the week I have off from work.
I have a roast and potatoes and broccoli for tomorrow and a 20-year-old still-functioning slow cooker. Plans are good. I have a generous supply of books. I am content.
Beloved is still plagued with medical problems. We are dealing in our own ways.

Blessed Yule and Merry Christmas to All!
